Count IV
It’s hard to gain high performance from any screening plant when it is
not well fed. Orbital Action screening plants have very capable feeders
with options available to optimize the care and feeding of many
different types of materials into the screen dish.
In our opinion, one of the first things to look for is how high the lip
of the feeder is above the ground level. Building a ramp to get the
bucket high enough is not only costly to do, it is inefficient while in
use. Extra seconds are used with each loading cycle. After a screening
job is complete, time consuming clean up of used ramp material is
usually required.
Next, is the hopper wide enough and long enough to take the load from
the bucket without moving the loader? Also is there enough length to
accommodate continuous feeding while the loader is gone to get another
load?
Following adequate size, is the feeder capable of taking on many
different shapes and sizes of materials then delivering them to the
screen with minimal problems? Weeds, sticks, sod clumps as well as
rocks or asphalt should be easily moved forward at a steady pace and
delivered directly into the screening element.
Another feature, while not used for many operations is the Grizzly.
However, if you need it, we have it. Orbit Screens are pre-assembled
with the ability to simply bolt one on, hook up the hydraulics and go
to work.
And finally the ability to add extensions and a feeding gate tops off
the field of available feeder options. If your material is suitable to
flow through a large feed gate, optimum screen performance may be
achieved. Remember, a small feed gate opening may be prone to exhibit
plugging problems.
Please watch several of the video clips to see the feeder in action If
you are looking at another make of screening plant, please compare
their feeding capabilities along side Orbital
Action, visualize potential problems and count your unproductive

Brads Blog, “The Finer Cut”, is another of many
planned. Each issue will cover a topic of interest about our machines,
our industry, our customers and more. I look forward to this task and
am excited about the opportunity to broaden our communications with our
customers and industry. I invite you to return and visit from time to
time, cruising back through issues to see what I may have been thinking
of at another time.
I also invite you, our reader to contribute by offering your comments.
