Owner Friendly:
My devotion to designing and building machines that are easy to operate and maintain,
The “Kiss Principal” (Blog #6),
is the result of dealing with purchased machines during many years of
owning and operating a construction business. Starting out as a Land
Improvement Contractor, expanding into Water, Sewer, Telephone, Cable and finally Natural Gas Distribution.
There were many times that a small “tweak” would make a very nice
improvement to one a machine. Then, we embarked on a complete redesign
of a mechanical tool one winter. Using an old combine engine, some junk
pickup parts and the help of our core pipeline crew we came up with a
small service and distribution line trencher. It looked crude, but it
trenched several million feet of service line trench before we retired
it.
The next winter we tackled backfilling and came up with a rather
unique, tractor mounted Drop Hammer. Then came our small sized Back
Hoe. All were “Owner Friendly” in that they were very productive and easy to service and maintain with many locally
sourced maintenance and service parts. Those machines became the
foundation machines offered by “Bradco”, a company I founded in 1963
(About Us). I am proud to note, the Bradco Brand name is still a
popular brand name today.
As for “Owner Unfriendly” I am reminded of a time when I was forced to
drive 650 miles 1 way overnight to get 4 V-Belts. This was long
before FEDEX and the crew was idled until my return. I vowed
never to put the owner of any equipment made by me in that
position. Toward that end, many replacement parts for our
machines are still locally sourced today.
In the coming weeks, look for new blogs announcing new "Owner Friendly" data tracking capabilities.
