The “KISS Principal”
(Keep it Simple, Stupid)
Continuous Change Applied:
|
In
keeping with our long-time tradition our new Model 68C features
customer requested changes as well as other desirable features we have
envisioned. We now include the remote control on all shipments of the
Model 68C. The remote control feature will be available as an option on
the Model 58A at a future date.
When working on the design for
the Model 68C, introduced recently, remote control was one of our
desired objectives. It is now incorporated along with keeping many of
the simple system controls that have helped make our screening plants
so reliable and easy to operate and maintain.
One of the basic
controls was the “Ball Valve” used to turn on/off our main functions. A
ball valve is a reliable and easy to understand component. It always
worked, and you could see it work. A failure rate risk was virtually at
Zero (0).
To incorporate a Radio Control, it was necessary to
add electrical controls. We selected, again a simple, reliable
component, a Solenoid on/off, normally open valve controlled by a
switch and a radio system selected from a reliable vendor. However,
considering any component using electrical and radio wave components to
be failure rated at Zero (0) was simply not realistic. If it did not
work, you probably could not easily see why. Your frustration rate will
increase exponentially!
To counter this risk while enabling our
customer to enjoy the advantages of remote control we have retained the
long used, proven “Ball Valve” in our system. Having your machine shut
down with some mysterious electrical/radio glitch while you are trying
to finish loading a customer’s truck is not a problem. Access the
manually controlled ball valves and go back to work finishing your
immediate task of serving your customer.
