Nostalgia
In an earlier Blog I mentioned learning of the KISS Principle as a young man. I was a
very lucky guy, in my opinion, as my forbearers were hard working,
survivor types during the depression years. We children were taught to
live our lives by keeping it simple, always be fair in dealing and work
for personal rewards. Your word was to be your bond.
Being cattle feeding farmers, Dad traveled to the West and bought
cattle to finish for market on the Iowa family farm. I traveled with
Dad, rode horse back on roundups (there were no four wheelers in the
“40s), slept in a bed roll in the cow camps out on the range.. I worked
with Cowboys and lived the life of a Cowboy. What an experience for a
boy just starting teen years.
Zane Grey was a popular author and wrote about the Code of the West.
While the Code was largely a collection of un-written slogans, saying
and quotes, a condensed copy hung on the wall in the guest bedroom at
the home ranch in Montana.
I recently came across a copy of the Code which kindled memories of
those days in the West. It had a message that would be neat to be read
and lived by every politician currently serving our great country and
for that matter, all of us. I quote it here.
Code of the West:
Live each day with courage.
Take pride in your work.
Always finish what you
start.
Do what has to be done.
Be, tough but fair.
When you make a promise,
keep it.
Ride for the brand
Talk less and say more.
Remember that some things
are not for sale.
Know where to draw the
line.
Brads Blog, “The Finer Cut”, is another of many
planned. Each issue will cover a topic of interest about our machines,
our industry, our customers and more. I look forward to this task and
am excited about the opportunity to broaden our communications with our
customers and industry. I invite you to return and visit from time to
time, cruising back through issues to see what I may have been thinking
of at another time.
I also invite you, our reader to contribute by offering your comments.
Please send your thoughts to Brad@orbitscreens.com
