The
KISS Principle IIl
Hydraulic System
Hydraulic systems are particularly subject to becoming quite
complicated due to the many options and possible hydraulic circuits
available. There are a large number of system providers with good
engineers and sales personnel, all with a fine product and a need to
sell for a living. There becomes a tendency to over design, just to be
sure.
Providing the best combination of hydraulic components capable of
performing all functions required, reliably with a long life and at the
lowest overall cost while remaining easy to service is my goal. I
believe that you, our customer is best served if I follow KISS
Principles and provide you with such a system. After all, if you need
to learn about fancy controls, sensors or electronics to service your
new machine, you will not be focusing on your goal of providing your
customers with select materials at a good profit.
Orbital action screening plants employ very simple circuitry, beginning
with providing an individual pump for each primary circuit (working
component) of the machine. The feed hopper and the screen dish have
variable volume pumps while the conveyors have constant volume pumps,
all stacked together as a four pump assembly to be driven with one
drive.
Following the pumps, each of four circuits execute an individual task.
The two variable volume pumps only pump the required volume of oil. The
two constant volume pumps are well balanced to the loads
expected. There is no hydraulic oil being pumped that is not used
to power a required function. No hydraulic power is wasted through
pilot circuits, compensating controls or valves. Heat build up is
minimal as nearly all of the engine power introduced into the system is
used to perform work.

Brads Blog, “The Finer Cut”, is another of
many
planned. Each issue will cover a topic of interest about our machines,
our industry, our customers and more. I look forward to this task and
am excited about the opportunity to broaden our communications with our
customers and industry. I invite you to return and visit from time to
time, cruising back through issues to see what I may have been thinking
of at another time.
I also invite you, our reader to contribute by offering your comments.
