Orbit Screens
HISTORY

During the late 1970’s, Brad Schnittjer began looking for additional products to add to the line of attachments being produced at Bradco/American Trencher, Inc., a company Brad had formed in 1964. Recycling waste materials and composting was beginning to become popular. It was in this arena that work was begun on a proposed product line, focused on recycling.

The initial product line as envisioned included a screening plant. Most screens available at that time did not work very well in difficult materials. However, due to a corporate decision to focus on the design of a compost turning machine, no screening machine work was started. The SCAT windrow turner was born from this original effort.

Early in 1990, Brad conceptualized the initial working screening concept, which he described as orbital action. This concept eventually was further developed into the Satellite Screening machine. A Company called Satellite Screens, Inc. was formed, based in DeWitt, Iowa. While operating, 110 machines were manufactured; most of which are still working for their owners.

Update:  1999

The assets and patent of Satellite Screens Inc. were purchased by Fecon, Inc.

A license agreement between Fecon, Inc. and Brad Schnittjer conveyed exclusive rights to manufacture and market Orbital Action Screening Plants with screen dish sizes six (6) foot in diameter and smaller.

Update:  2000 to 2004

Orbit Screens, Inc. was founded by Brad Schnittjer and Steve Steffen.

Manufacturing began with the Model 63, soon adding the Model 68.

Manufacturing duties were handled by Steve Steffen at his company, S & R Manufacturing, while all other operations were handled by Brad Schnittjer at Orbit Screens, Inc. in Delhi, Iowa.

Update:  2004 to 2007

Brad Schnittjer purchased Steve Steffen’s share and became the sole owner of Orbit Screens, Inc.  Brad also assumed the manufacturing duties along with all other company operations.

Current:

Orbit Screens, Inc. now offers a good range of machines, priced from $14,000 to $90,000.00.  With six full years of witnessing what our customers have accomplished, we now are pleased to note:  We have America’s finest “general purpose” screening plant, as stated by many Orbit Screens owners.

Acknowledgement:

Introducing a new methodology to the industry is always a difficult chore, whether you are a big company or a little guy with a dream, it takes lots of time, effort and money.

Orbital Action Screening has been no exception. Brad and his staff personally and sincerely thank all of those persons and companies who looked at the fledging machine in action and partnered with our new idea and a new company.

By working together, we have accomplished good things.  All of us at Orbit Screens look forward to additional accomplishments as we move forward.

The Other Path:

Brad departed Bradco/American Trencher to focus his attentions on Screening Plants. The original, 1964 “Bradco” company is now called Paladin and is owned by the Dover Corporation, a New York Stock Exchange company. The original manufacturing plant has expanded several times on the original location in Delhi, Iowa.  “Bradco” remains one of its primary brand and trademarked names.

A marketing division of Bradco/American Trencher, named SCAT Engineering was sold. Recently the SCAT product line was purchased by Vermeer Manufacturing Company of Pella, Iowa. Vermeer has begun introduction of its exclusive elevating face Vermeer compost turning machines.

Brad takes this opportunity and forum to personally recognize and thank those thousands of employees, business associates, vendors and customers, over what is now a forty-two (42) year long career, for their contributions, patience and fortitude toward making many of Brad’s personal dreams a reality.

Happy Screening!
